Purchasing Manager

Salary to £40,000 pa + Benefits - Based near Newbury, Berkshire

A rapidly growing Food manufacturer operating from a modern purpose-built Production facility. As part of their growth strategy, they are now seeking a Purchasing Manager to join the business and become a key member of the senior management team.

The Purchasing Manager will hold a high level of responsibility, focusing on negotiation, business cost, quality, and execution of the Procurement strategy. Duties of the role will include:

  • Responsibility for purchasing all raw materials, packaging, engineering parts, consumables.
  • Lead Procurement projects such as Supplier reviews and possibly rationalize the supplier base.
  • Build strong relationships and understanding with suppliers through visits and supplier meetings.
  • Work with Operations to Investigate delivery issues, shortages, and price discrepancies.
  • Implement purchasing strategies and drive commercial value across all suppliers.
  • Use advanced negotiation skills to gain competitive advantage and assured supply of raw materials.
  • Extract information from the system to compile reports, such as YOY supplier performance, cost price movements, commodity price tracking etc.
  • Work cross functionally with NPD, Marketing, Technical and Operations.
  • Manage and direct the activities of a Purchasing Assistant.

The Person

  • Of graduate calibre, possibly MCIPS qualified.
  • Ideally with Purchasing experience gained from within the Food & Drink Manufacturing sector.
  • Experience gained within a Purchasing role with responsibility for a significant amount of spend.
  • Can provide evidence of their commercial awareness.
  • Demonstrable track record of strong negotiation and implementation of Purchasing plans.
  • IT skills (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
  • Able to work at pace with excellent Time Management and demonstrating a calm approach under pressure.
  • Attention to detail with a right first-time approach.
  • Able to prioritise a number of different requests from internal and external contacts.

Career progression is available with this role and the individual appointed will have an opportunity to develop into a Senior Commercial Manager within the business, if they wished to pursue this option.

Hours: Monday to Friday 7.30am-4:00pm or 8.30am-5:00pm

Salary £37,500 pa - £40,000 pa depending on experience

This role is commutable from: Berkshire, Hampshire, Wokingham, Andover, Reading, Newbury, Basingstoke, Tadley, Theale, Thatcham, Donnington, Tilehurst, Henley.
