Technical Manager

Technical Manager - Central Hertford.

Salary: £35 - £45,000 depending upon experience

Martin Mathew and Co Ltd are one of the UK’s major importers of canned food from around the world.  We supply the UK market with canned food, pasta, olive oils, vinegars and jams We supply to retailers, wholesalers, manufacturers and to the UKs largest food service suppliers.  Our head office is based in Hertford town centre with storage facilities Kings Lynn Norfolk.

The successful candidate will work as a key member of our small Technical team and will be based in Hertford with some flexibility depending on candidate. An ideal opportunity to gain wide ranging technical experience within a range of products.

Key responsibilities:

• Champion of sustainability and company reporting of carbon footprint.
• Contribute to maintenance of our BRC accredited quality management system.
• Keep up to date with BRC related training and standard updates.
• Maintain customer specification portals.
• Artwork checking and sign off for labels etc.
• Dedicated contact for key customer accounts.
• Commercial support for buying team and factory approvals.
• Ensuring high standards of compliance and food safety across all products
• Analysing quality non conformances and effective management of stock
• Reviewing complaints and working closely with suppliers
• Assessment of non conformance stock and disposal
• BRC Audit preparation
• Monitoring and updating customer portal, specifications as required
• Approve and sign off artwork, labels etc.
• Assisting in the supply and review of samples for NPD and forwarding to customers

Personal Profile

• A graduate with a degree in Food Technology or similar
• Good communication and organisational skills are essential to liaise with teams across the business at all levels
• Experience of working in a similar role in the food industry
• Enthusiastic, self motivated and confident communicator
• Flexible and happy to work on own initiative and as a member of the team
• IT literate, able to use customer portal and specification systems
• Thorough knowledge of Excel, windows and Microsoft office
