This is an exciting time in the packaging industry and Universal Flexible Packaging Limited are proud to announce that we are looking to recruit a new Quality Control Technician at our Lewisher Road site based in Leicester.

Our business celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2021 and we offer our clients innovative packaging solutions for ambient food products such as confectionary, pasta, sugar and much more! Our strong client base in the UK ranges from supporting smaller businesses to the larger supermarket chains and we are set to grow further in 2022. Whilst the CoVid-19 pandemic was a tough time for many businesses over the past two years, we take pride in the fact that we maintained staff safety and continued to pack everyday essential products for our clients keeping businesses running and supporting our local communities. As our new Quality Control Technician, we would like the successful candidate to demonstrate the following attributes:

  • Demonstrate excellent communication, numeracy and literacy skills
  • Punctual, smart and to help promote the company culture within the business

  • Develop a healthy, strong working relationship with the senior management team as well as your new colleagues
  • Capacity to work shift rotations (including a night shift cover) where required by the business essential

In terms of experience and qualifications, we would be looking for our new Quality Control Technician to have achieved or aiming to achieve the following:

  • At least 2 years of working within a low risk or high risk FMCG packaging environment
  • Preferably educated to ‘A’ Level standard or above in a scientific discipline such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or Food Science. At a minimum, GCSE grade C or above in Mathematics, Science and English
  • Experience of 3rd party audit requirements such as BRCGS, Soil Association, Halal, Kosher and supermarket technical standards
  • Worked within a Quality Control or Quality Assurance team to manage aspects of food safety, adhering to specifications and quality checks
  • Experience of HACCP and Food safety principles with CCPs of metal detection and X-ray
  • Adhering to multiple quality procedures such as labelling controls, LOT coding and BBE/Use by
  • Demonstrate understanding and experience in quality checks such as legislative weights, CCPs and packaging
  • Experience in Allergen protein, Pathogen and Environmental swabbing
  • Developing a professional rapport with the Quality Manager and senior management teams
  • Ability to make decisive food safety decisions during live production such as pausing production for a CCP non-conformity
  • Assisting the Quality Team in complaint investigation and product non-conformities
  • Allergen Management, Segregation and Environmental sampling experience
  • Competent in GMP audits and helping to maintaining high standards of hygiene
  • To be prepared for a fast paced packaging environment and challenging product rotations
  • Experience of handling or packing authenticity products such as Gluten-Free, Vegan and Dairy-Free
  • Knowledge of internal audits, documentation and archiving
  • Working with ambient stable products such as confectionary, popcorn, pasta, seasonings
  • Knowledge of COSHH principles and chemical safety in a production area
  • Display excellent IT skills in Excel, Word, PowerPoint

In addition, the following traits would be greatly desirable but not essential for the role:

  • Ability to communicate in Guajarati and Hindi a significant advantage
  • Certified or working towards being an Internal Auditor
  • Basic Food Hygiene trained
