The Transport Manager, based in Slough, will be responsible for organising the storage and distribution of goods, effectively managing a growing transport operation reaching all parts of the country. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the transportation and movement of all products and goods to achieve the best possible level of service to internal departments and external customers. This position includes the identification of opportunities for transportation, new business and operation improvements, this is achieved by:
Have an understanding of the whole supply chain so you can co-ordinate it effectively and liaise with suppliers of raw materials, manufacturers, retailers and consumers.
Optimising resources to achieve planned daily delivery/collection profile and meet supplier/retailer requirements.
Monitoring the quality, quantity, cost and efficiency of the movement and storage of goods, identifying process improvements within the operation.
Liaising with customer delivery points to ensure service levels of high standards at all times.
Demonstrating a good knowledge of food safety.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Direct activities related to dispatching, routing and tracking transportation vehicles.
Coordinate drivers, vehicles, loads and journeys.
Ensure multi-drop and consolidated loads are managed in the most efficient way.
Ensure vehicles are maintained, licensed and road worthy certified.
Direct activities in relation to repairs and maintenance to vehicles.
Develop and confirm schedules.
Good knowledge of the principles of transport and logistics management.
3 + years’ experience in transport management/supervision.
Experience of managing a team.
Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making abilities.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Good planning, organisational and time management skills.
