My client, a successful FMCG manufacturing company, is looking to recruit an experienced Technical for their site based in Wincanton. The successful Technical Manager will report directly into the Operations director and will have 5 direct reports. This is a hands on role working for a company with both a family feel and a professional work ethic who pride themselves on delivering excellent customer service
Technical Manager Main Duties and Responsibilities:
1.To manage the technical department personnel.
2.To manage the technical requirements of the business concerning quality, legality and food safety and ensure these are aligned with the needs of interested parties including external customers and regulatory bodies.
3.To co-ordinate the development, maintenance and ongoing development of the company documented management system so that it fulfils requirements, including the latest BRC Global Food Standard.
4.To co-ordinate supplier assurance controls with emphasis on raw material and packaging suppliers.
5.To provide internal technical support for the business, including New Product Development.
6.To report on departmental performance at management meetings.
7.To ensure that all staff receive suitable food safety training.
8.To manage dealings with 3rd parties for the business – including EHO, Trading Standards, Laboratory, external audits etc.
9.To coordinate the actions arising from external audits so as to ensure deadlines are met.
10.To coordinate the supplier audit programme.
11.To analyse key performance data and information on the effectiveness of the Quality and Food Safety Management System.
12.To agree the annual budget for areas of control and monitor and report against budget and theoretical costs.
13.To monitor and report on agreed KPI’s and propose improvements where appropriate.
14.To manage the HACCP Team and coordinate HACCP Team tasks.
15.To coordinate food safety and other technical training.
16.Responsibility for Health and Safety within the Technical Department.
17.To ensure that the Process Development Technologist is available for all factory trials and first production runs to monitor and advise on any issues.
18.Ensure that customers are supplied with all technical data that is requested in an appropriate timeframe.
19.To plan and carry out food safety training and refresher training at an applicable frequency.
Key skills required for the Technical Manager role:
Relevant Technical Management experience within the food industry.
Experience working with Retailers
Extensive practical experience of BRC accreditation, HACCP implementation, facilitation of customer audits and quality system management.
Degree qualification in food science or equivalent
Excellent people management & communication skills.
A recognised Food hygiene qualification.
In return the successful Technical Manager will be working for a growing and successful manufacturing company. You will earn a competitive salary of between £45 – 50k together with a yearly bonus.
