Job location: Wolverhampton, UK

Cargill’s European poultry business is a leading supplier and innovator of further processed chicken products for retail, food service and food manufacturing customers. Based out of our state-of-the-art further chicken processing plant in Wolverhampton where we produce breaded and battered chicken products. You will be a key member of the factory helping implement Environmental Management Systems to ensure legal compliance and to maintain third party accreditation (currently ISO 140001). The position will be pivotal in helping the site meet the requirements of the Environment Agency and any other regulatory bodies.

The key responsibilities are:

  • Implement and drive the effective environmental management system for the Wolverhampton site that meets external auditing standards to achieves business and customer objectives 

  • Ensure that support programmes and strategies are in place to maintain accreditation 

  • Provide any necessary training on the implementation of the environmental management system for the site

  • Carry out gap analysis and devise a maintainable program that meets the requirements of ISO 140001

  • Conduct audits and follow up actions to ensure certification is maintained 

  • Be responsible for the monitoring, tracking and reporting of environmental activities to the site management team 

  • Work with external consultants on the site operating permit and follow up with the submission to the Environment Agency 

  • Manage the site action plan related to effluent, odour, noise and waste


  • Educated to a degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant scientific subject or proven experience setting up Environmental Management systems 

  • NEBOSH certificate 

  • IEMA Membership would be useful 

  • Knowledge of the ISO14001 accreditation process

  • Experience gained in a food manufacturing environment or other manufacturing facility  

  • Experience in conducting risk assessments and incident/ accident investigation 

  • Ability to manage multiple compete priorities and ensure plans, guidance and advice is accurate, timely and effective

  • Able to quickly gather and analyse facts and input from stakeholders and provide clear guidance and build consensus on solutions with the site management 

  • Able to present to and train others 

  • Intermediate or above level in the Microsoft Office suite (Word and Excel)

  • Fluent in English (Verbal and Written) and able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organisation
