Cargill’s portfolio of refined vegetable oils allows our customers in food manufacturing, retail, catering and food services to create a wide range of tasty and nutritious food products. We partner with our customers to develop innovative products and solutions together to help them meet their consumer’s requirements.

We are looking to appoint a Crush Production Manager based out of our rapeseed crush and refinery plant in Liverpool (Brocklebank). The prime purpose of this key production position is to provide leadership for employee safety, process safety, production efficiency, volume and costs of the Brocklebank oilseed crushing operation. This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to run the crush production in a large, complex manufacturing plant through close collaboration with multi-functional teams.

Main Tasks:

  • Provide safety leadership within the crushing operational area through ongoing support with existing safety systems such as reporting near miss and BBS (Behavioral Based Safety) and incident reporting

  • Supporting the deployment of new safety systems or improvements through training and modification work

  • Ensure the crushing operation adheres to all legal and corporate safety and food safety standards at all times 

  • Maintain production maximums to achieve low cost, high volume production ensuring customer quality and audit requirements are met and the plant production is quality/cost efficient

  • Be involved with the plant teams in shutdown planning and best utilize labor to ensure downtime is minimized 

  • Identify and request approvals for capital projects, in order to install new and more efficient equipment into the crushing process 

  • Manage some capital projects through the identification of personnel, process and productivity requirements and implement these changes 

  • Collaborate with Centre’s of Excellence for operational improvements 

  • Manage staff and contract staff in an efficient and cost effective way

  • Identify and organize training for operators to ensure they have the necessary skills and are constantly engaged and developed 

  • Develop talent and play an active role in recruiting talent 

  • Responsibility for setting and controlling budgets related to the crush production process


  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering subject (Chemical, Mechanical, Process Engineering) or through significant experience in a heavy industrial environment

  • A Master’s degree in Engineering would be an advantage but not essential

  • Able to work safely and embed a strong safety culture at all times

  • Experience from a heavy industrial processing 24/7 operation (e.g. Chemicals, Heavy Pharmaceuticals, Biofuels, Food/Feed Ingredients) or in Oilseeds Processing is strongly advantageous

  • Understanding of modern maintenance techniques

  • Experience in working with management Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s)

  • Experience with setting and controlling budgets

  • Experience with data management tools and systems, including but not limited to: Pi, Minitab, RtDuet and Microsoft Excel would be preferred

  • Proven hands-on knowledge of and passion for continuous improvement and problem solving techniques e.g. Kaizen, Lean 6 Sigma, RCA

  • Demonstrated ability to influence others and work with multifunctional teams and personnel, setting an example at all times 

  • Able to motivate, coach and develop a team of skilled Process Operators

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple initiatives and communicate goals, objectives and accomplishments to a broad audience (e.g. Process Operators, Plant Management, Non-Technical staff)

  • Clear verbal and written communication in fluent English
