Cargill’s starches & sweeteners plant in Manchester is a production facility at the hub of the UK food and beverage industry. The plant and offices are part of the Cargill’s food ingredients & applications business and produces sweeteners and wheat proteins for food customers. These include customers in the confectionery, brewing, beverage, dairy and bakery sectors.

The main responsibility of the Maintenance Scheduler is to support the site in plant productivity and reducing operating costs through effective maintenance execution efficiency driven by an effective advanced scheduling process. The scheduler is responsible for evaluation of all conditions that influence maintenance scheduling and minimising the backlog of maintenance work by effectively maximising the amount of work that can be carried out. Reporting to the site Maintenance Manager this opportunity will provide an excellent opportunity to drive forward advanced scheduling activities for the site.

Main Tasks:

  • Provide technical expertise in deploying reliability excellence in work scheduling
  • Continuously improve maintenance work preparation and execution by monitoring key performance indicators
  • Support the implementation of the site asset management programme
  • Align with the production and maintenance teams the final week schedule to optimise asset availability, ensuring proactive maintenance work is prioritised over other maintenance activities
  • Schedule full days of work and ensure time is maximised to reduce the time between maintenance tasks
  • Lead the maintenance schedule meetings ensuring production and maintenance are fully aligned
  • Ensure the maintenance schedule is correctly populated and distributed to the correct internal staff and external contractors
  • Combine work orders into ‘work packages’ to increase efficiency and avoiding multiple stops for assets inside the same processes
  • Forecast and align preventive maintenance activities to ensure the workload is balanced throughout the year
  • Allocate work to designated personnel
  • Evaluate all conditions in maintenance scheduling including but not limited to; personnel availability, asset availability, production considerations, contractors, materials, parts and tools,  health and safety/ quality considerations, weather conditions and CAPEX/ production projects
  • Share best scheduling practice with the team and conduct training sessions for maintenance personnel
  • To be actively involve with the plant EHS and food safety processes

Qualifications:

  • A level/ NVQ/ BTEC college technical qualification (preferably mechanical or electrical) or equivalent knowledge/ qualification
  • Degree qualification in Engineering would be advantageous but not essential
  • Previous proven hands on maintenance execution experience is advantageous but not essential
  • Experience gained in a complex chemical / food or beverage manufacturing plant would be useful
  • Working knowledge of maintenance processes and activities with experience in shutdown planning
  • Knowledge of a Computerized Maintenance Management System, MAXIMO preferred
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel, PowerPoint, SAP
  • Working knowledge of condition based monitoring techniques and a certified Maintenance Reliability Professional (CMRP) qualification would be useful
  • Understanding of root cause analysis and failure analysis RCFA / RCM / FMEA
  • Knowledge of maintenance metrics and best practices around workflow/ work order planning
  • Able to work as part of a team across different stakeholders and on own initiative
  • Excellent time management is essential in this position as is working under challenging circumstances
  • Fluent English (both verbal and written)
