Cargill’s global Cocoa and Chocolate business connects our deep cocoa knowledge with our broad food ingredient expertise, managing our supply chain from sourcing the beans at origin up to delivering our cocoa and chocolate products to our customers in the confectionery, biscuit, bakery and dairy industries.

To strengthen our business we are searching for a skilled production manager who will have responsibility for managing the production process in a safe and effective manner. The production manager will manage a team of operators and the sites planning and production logistics activities. The position holder will also deputise for the York Operations Manager in his absence.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Ensure Cargill standards and legal requirements for environmental and food health and safety is met at all times
  • Demonstrate a commitment at all times to employee safety
  • Responsible for permits
  • Ensure the manufacturing process is controlled and maintained within all operational safety and design limits
  • Drive improvements in food safety on the site, specifically in 5S standards  
  • Daily monitoring and review of the processes performance and a focus on continuous improvement and stable operations
  • Ensure production targets are met including process yield requirements and efficiency targets
  • Production planning and scheduling
  • Continuously improve the reliability of the process to increase plant capacity, yield and quality through effective collaboration with the maintenance team
  • Maintain a highly effective preventative maintenance programme and develop an effective, robust operator care system
  • Responsible for cost control and budgetary creation and management
  • Coach and mentor a team of operators ensuring high standards are set and maintained and colleagues are engaged
  • Involved in the selection and training of colleagues
  • Maintain and improve the existing continuous improvement culture in the York plant
  • Support and promote the use of continuous improvement/reliability excellence tools like Kaizen, 5Why, RCA’s 5S, Operator Care,  Quality Maintenance and Preventative Maintenance

 Required Qualifications

  • Degree in mechanical/ chemical engineering or equivalent engineering qualification
  • IOSH Managing Safely course or NEBOSH General Certificate would be strongly preferred
  • Proven production management experience in the Chemical/Food process industry
  • Proven people management skills and the ability to coach and motivate a team of production operators, providing constructive feedback and suggesting improvements for performance
  • Practical approach to problem solving with a focus on solutions in a timely manner
  • Sounds financial management skills with experience managing budgets
  • Excellent change management skills: Adapts to changing business needs, introduces new ways of thinking and behaving, applies new ideas. Comfortable to manage ambiguity
  • Manage conflicting priorities within tight deadlines and able to manage time effectively
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills at all levels of a business
  • Fully IT literate
  • Proven hands-on knowledge of and passion for continuous improvement and problem solving techniques e.g. Kaizen, Lean 6 Sigma, RCA would be highly preferred
