Job Details
The Process Technologist is a key member of the Innovation team delivering innovative products to Multichannel (retail and foodservice) customers. Based in the Wolverhampton factory, the position holder’s primary role is to manage all product scale up projects. This covers; devising and implementing the industrial process to produce at factory level the products developed by the New Product Development (NPD) department, ensuring that all technical, food safety and product specifications meet Cargill, customer and legal requirements. The Process Technologist will assess existing factory equipment and process suitability and will be involved in new manufacturing equipment selection. The Process Technologist will design and run line trials and assess the results of these, making improvements where necessary and ensure production operators are able to run the process.
The role provides considerable opportunity to grow experience in processing high quality, high throughput cooked, ready to eat poultry products, managing projects and exposure to high customer standards and to develop into a subject matter expert.
Main Tasks:
- Project manage allocated projects from the concept phase through to post launch review
- Verify ingredients and processes comply with Cargill, customer and legal requirements
- Run production line trials and review trial results and samples
- Identity optimum line settings and translate these into production line settings document for use by the production teams
- Ensure the process is validated and if any modifications are required these are clearly communicated and captured
- Check completion of micro and nutrition analysis and they meet customer requirements
- Troubleshoot product quality issues and help to resolve these
- Train production operators on line settings and proactively raise engineering issues where required
- Identify and assess new technology and equipment for use in the factory to understand capability and value vs existing factory equipment
- Provide input in other NPD projects
Qualifications:
- Previous demonstrated experience in the food industry in an NPD/ Development/ Manufacturing position
- Understanding of HACCP and Microbiological standards
- Experience in gathering and agreeing technical standards, demonstrating knowledge of regulatory requirements for food safety and labelling
- Experience in processing Poultry/ Meat would be highly preferred, including experience of hygiene requirements for fully cooked, fried, ready to eat products
- Effective communication skills, both spoken and written in English, a second language (Polish, Russian or French) would be advantageous but not essential
- Project management experience encompassing the start to a launch of a product would be preferred
- The ability to prioritise competing demands and work to tight customer and internal deadlines
- Experience of working with McDonald’s as a customer would be advantageous
- Due to the customer facing element of the position, a full driving licence and willingness to drive to customer sites is essential
- European/ Global travel will be required
