Cargill’s European poultry business is a leading supplier and innovator of further processed chicken products for retail, food service and food manufacturing customers. Based out of our state-of-the-art further chicken processing plant in Wolverhampton where we produce breaded and battered chicken products, you will be a senior leader responsible for managing the technical relationship ( Food Safety, Quality and Regulatory ) with one of our larger strategic customers and other customers in the UK & Eire. Reporting into the business FSQR Director, you will have a scope including communications with customer representatives from food safety, quality assurance and agricultural departments, supply chain companies, other Cargill facilities as well as UK/Eire local authorities and Cargill functions/personnel. 

We are seeking an experienced Technical Manager who can demonstrate quality culture leadership, product safety expertise, broad understanding of supply chain risks, proactively identify and anticipate potential risk and takes action to prevent food safety / quality issues. You will be committed to the ongoing development of a quality culture with a continuous improvement (Lean/6 sigma) mindset through effective coaching of employees.

This role will require some travel within the UK & Eire, the EU and potentially Thailand as necessary.

 The role involves managing the complexity associated with servicing one of our larger strategic customer’s biggest and most successful markets and the post-holder must be able to operate successfully in a data-rich fast-moving environment operating with challenging lead times.


The key responsibilities are:


  • Responsible for managing the Food Safety & Quality Regulatory (FSQR) /technical relationship with customers at senior levels in the UK & Eire as well local authority stakeholders.

  • Direct technical and team management (3 direct, 15 indirect reports) responsibility for all FSQR aspects of the Wolverhampton ( Balliol ) operation.

  • Ensures through effective relationships with other Cargill FSQR teams that all facilities involved in manufacturing products for customers in the UK & Eire comply fully (on a 24/7 – unannounced audit readiness basis) with GFSI (BRC), SQMS and Cargill food safety accreditation requirements.

  • Ensure all FSQR systems (HACCP, Food Defence, Food Safety , GMP/PRP etc.) are appropriately maintained with active leadership to proactively deal with potential emerging concerns.

  • Working with operational, logistics, procurement and Commercial team to consistently achieve customer product quality and food safety expectations.

  • Provide detailed technical reports for internal and external customers via facility FSQR teams in relation to agreed key performance metrics.

  • Control of facility expenditure within FSQR budgets.

  • Monitors regulatory activities and ensures plant compliance.

  • Active participation in all matters relating to new product development/introduction and product quality improvement.

  • Ensuring that all relevant systems and documents are appropriately updated to reflect customer and Cargill requirements

  • Participation in the development, introduction and optimization of new technologies and processing equipment including data capture and management capabilities



  • Educated to a degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant scientific or food technology related subject

  • Proven senior experience and success demonstrated within previous senior technical management roles, preferably with relevant experience of high volume/high speed manufacturing

  • Well-developed customer management, relationship building and leadership skills

  • Ability to develop talent and to motivate teams

  • Sound communication and influencing skills

  • Broad and in-depth knowledge of ingredient and food manufacturing processes preferred

  • Detailed knowledge of HACCP & global food safety assurance scheme requirements

  • Comprehensive understanding of applicable food/food safety related legislation

  • Ability to analyse complex problems, determine true root causes of failure and implementation of successful preventive actions
