MorePeople are delighted to be working with a highly regarded plant-breeding business with more than 100 years of breeding experience behind them. We are assisting them as they seek a Deputy Technical Director/General Manager to join their UK team.

The Job:

As Deputy Technical Director you will be based on their site near Newmarket. You will initially work in collaboration with the current Technical Director with the aim to become the UK based Director with ultimate responsibility for the activities of the UK business.

Your responsibilities will be split between:
Technical trials and liaising with all internal and third-party breeders regarding their trial requirements and the use of the Field Station.
Working on variety registration and liaising with APHA and BSPB throughout the registration process.
Representing the business at various industry technical meetings and project management meetings.
Preparing and submitting financial reports, budgets and forecasts.
Acting as Product Manager for all non-cereal crops.

The person:

We are looking for candidates who:
Have a degree in agriculture, horticulture or botany, preferably PhD or MSc.
Come from a plant science background, for example agronomy, plant breeding, pathology etc.
Has a strong understanding of genetics and genetic markers.
Knowledge of database and statistical software.
BASIS, NRoSO and Crop Inspector Licence are desirable.
There will be the need to travel and overnight stays so it is important that you can be flexible.
Understands that this is not a standard 9 - 5 role and that there will be the need to work long hours/weekends during busy periods such as growing season, harvest and sowing.
