Located in Morayshire, this is an opportunity for someone with a QA background to join and established food manufacturer.

Purpose of Role:  

  • To implement the quality and process audit service to the factory in order to ensure the objectives and procedures detailed in the quality manual are achieved and to ensure the safety, legality and quality of the product are adhered to and maintained.
  • To ensure that customer specifications, quality manual and procedures, record keeping and hygiene standards are maintained throughout the factory.  

Key Accountabilities:

  • Escalate problems to the Senior Quality Auditor and ensure that a work update is given frequently and be responsible for answering all questions pertaining to the update
  • To perform any other tasks that may be reasonably requested by the company for the fulfilment of the role of Quality Auditor

Key Responsibilities:

  • To assist in the operation of the QA function by maintaining satisfactory standards of performance with regard to food safety, hygiene, discipline and health and safety and to bring all the issues arising from these duties to the attention of the Senior Quality Auditor or Site Technical Manager.

Auditing, checks and sampling:

  1. Process checks (temp, trace, WIP life, ingredient WIP life, quality e.g. thickness checks, etc)
  2. Daily walk round of area
  3. Line sign off when product change over required
  4. Recipe sign off where applicable
  5. Carry out routine Internal Audits in line with the Quality Management System
  6. Glass & plastic audits
  7. Foreign body audits
  8. Critical Control Point Audits
  9. Fabrication Audits
  10. Personnel Audits
  11. On site calibration checks in line with site schedules and agreed methods (Probe & scale calibration)
  12. Water and product sampling
  13. Process, Post cleaning and trial swabs
  14. Shelf life verification studies and sampling
  15. Nutritional verification sampling
  16. Chemical testing
  17. Mass balance exercises
  18. Traceability exercises
  19. Monitoring of process conditions and relevant aspects of the production environment (GMP and Personnel Hygiene) are adhered to

Taste Panels:

  1. Preparing samples, holding and reporting daily taste panel sessions
  2. Positive Release where applicable
  3. Following up on any taste panel issues by conducting re-sampling and blocking stock
  4. Retention sample sign off
  5. End of Life sampling
  6. QAS and consistency panels as per schedule

Verifying CCP checks have been completed by production. Ensuring Critical Control Points within processing areas are controlled

Conducting daily Critical Control Point verification testing i.e. salt in aqueous phase testing and / or water activity testing

Auditing the records and staff conducting  various product checks during production, including dimension, weight and  Temperature

Non Conformances:

  1. Issuing, reporting & documenting non-conformances
  2. Placing non-conforming stock on hold
  3. Issuing concessions (with the guidance from Senior Quality Auditor)
  4. To ensure the hold procedure is followed correctly for any non-conforming raw materials and finished product
  5. Documenting Internal audit / GMP audit non-conformances

Collating, auditing and archiving production process paperwork, ensuring document control is correct and quality standards are maintained throughout the factory through routine checks of factory production

Send customer CoA’s where applicable and conduct positive release (with guidance from SQA) where applicable e.g. aqueous salt, water activity, micro 

Conduct staff briefings when necessary

Assisting the department/factory in preparing for customer visits/audits

Assisting NPD in attending factory trials where applicable

To perform tasks that are of a reasonable request in line with the Technical department reporting any breaches in Food Safety or Quality to the Senior Quality Auditor, Technical Manager, Operations Manager or Production Managers 

  • Ensure that a safe working practice is adhered to in their working area at all times
  • Actively promote good working relationship with colleagues across all functions within the business
  • To support, assist and when cover required (during holidays/absence) in other areas and other shifts - Intake, Final Pack & Dispatch
  • Needs to know
  1. Knowledge of Food Safety Standards
  2. Knowledge of Hygiene Standards
  3. Knowledge of Technical Standards in a food manufacturing environment
  4. Knowledge of Technical Systems - factory policies, procedures, work instructions and records
  5. Understanding of customer base
  6. Understanding of supplier base (ingredients & packaging)
  7. Understanding of health and safety

Qualifications (desirable but not essential):

  1. HACCP training
  2. Food hygiene level 2


  1. Food manufacturing related experience in high care environment ideal but not essential
  2. Food manufacturing related experience desired
  3. Auditing experience desired
