Bakkavor are one of the leading manufacturers in the production of fresh food. We specialise in making and developing private label prepared foods for the top global grocery retailers and well-known international foodservice operators.

Job Purpose: 

To lead and manage a production shift and co-ordinate the operational support functions on that shift to maximise production output.

Responsible for ensuring management and development of team members, delivery of safety, quality, customer service and performance KPI’s across the shift.

Leads by example on company Values and develop a total quality culture with the desire to improve.

Must Haves:

  • Proven experience of leading & managing a team in an FMCG manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively using appropriate verbal and written mediums.
  • Able to influence at all levels.
  • Ability to make effective operational decisions considering changing operational and commercial factors and customer needs.
  • Good analytical and numerical capability.

Role Accountabilities:

Health & Safety - To pro-actively manage to ensure that a safe working environment exists for all employees in the operation and that as a minimum the operation meets the standards set out in the Group Health & Safety policy.

Quality Standards - To maintain standards of quality, food safety, hygiene and housekeeping within your area through Good Manufacturing Practice (G.M.P.) to ensure that both Business and customer standards are kept and audit requirements are fully met.

Performance Management - To lead and manage shift team members to ensure daily production targets are met as outlined in the daily production schedules.

Ensure all appropriate checks at start-up, end of day and changeovers are completed and logged.

Monitor production progress throughout shift and intervene as necessary to  ensure production targets are met and downtime is minimised.

Input into daily & weekly operational forecasting plans.

Escalate issues as necessary that may affect the achievement of daily targets.

Ensure information is communicated and feedback encouraged inc. conducting staff briefings tool box talks and responding to requests for information and suggestions for improvements.

Training & Development - To own the training & development for all levels of the team. Actively coach, develop, recruit and train team members to the required level of competence to encourage continuous improvement within the business. Complete performance appraisals and highlight high potential talent through the company DAS process.

NPD Process – manage the NPD process within their area of responsibility to ensure that all trials run successfully and through to product launch.

Managing through use of KPIs - Ensure the delivery of agreed KPIs across the operation through the team, making sure that KPIs are understood and utilised to support performance improvement plans and day to day activities. Ensuring systems are in place to collect the necessary data to measure performance against the agreed KPIs. Ensure appropriate shift paperwork and systems are completed accurately  and in a timely manner.

Resource Management - Plans, organises and measures labour and material requirements within their area to ensure that both short- and long- term agreed targets are met. Work with the Planner and HR team to ensure labour availability and utilisation is maximised.

Communication - Ensure that the workforce in their area is well informed on relevant business news and to encourage effective cross-functional links and that channels of communication are clear and available. 

Recruitment – Make selection decisions  for direct reports, supervise and coach Section Leaders (or other direct reports) in the recruitment process for their teams.

Employee Relations - Encourages the Bakkavor values and a positive culture, whilst fostering good employee relations through fair, consistent and effective people management. Makes decisions and deals with issues before they escalate. Seeks advice and support if required.
