We are a privately family owned, Fresh Food manufacturer & grower making an impact on the FMCG market. Our organisation is family owned, and has been since 1965. We are fast-paced, exciting, dynamic and due to rapid successful growth our organisation is seeking a new exciting addition to the Technical Team, based at our Howden growing and packing site in the heart of East Yorkshire.

The Technical Team

Our small but friendly, newly formed Picking and Harvesting Team are looking for a full time, Harvesting Manager to manage our growing houses. This Team are central to our established business. They are hardworking, focused, and a friendly team with a passion for Mushrooms and picking the right quality and quantity for our customers. This role will be vital to ensure Harvesting meets our customers’ technical, quality and food safety needs on time fulfilling service levels at all time.

The team work incredibly hard and fast paced on the latest innovations in mushroom picking technology. They are incredibly flexible, tenacious and have bags of personality and always ensure they develop their knowledge to future proof their careers with the business. The Role

In this role you’ll work closely with Packing, Planning, Growing & Engineering to ensure the right product is picked for the right customer in line with customer specifications. You will conduct training, upskills people in the business, promote from within and transfer knowledge to empower our Picking Operatives to grow their ambitions and careers with the business. You will have a knack for motivating people and ensure people are happy at work.

You will work within the parameters set by Planning for the customers required. You will conduct risk assessments on machinery, areas and people, check the product quality as it is being picked, coach people who are struggling to adapt and make recommendations to transfer people into other areas of the business. You will also ensure all areas and products meet the highest hygiene and food safety regulations as required by our customers and BRC. 

You will be passionate for H&S and conduct daily audits of the area, addressing any H&S issues immediately. You will be flexible and want to develop the business further.

The Harvesting team work within an excellent environment and maintain a truly people focused culture. Reporting into the General Manger you will be joining a close-knit team that strives for the best in the industry in terms of technology, people and products. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring quality checks and quality principles, Food safety, quality, GMP as well as various audits including customer, BRC and Environmental Health are participated in to gain the business its highly acclaimed accreditation.

You will operate safely and securely in the growing and picking environment, with an eye for detail, flagging up breaches, issues to the relevant person, working in collaboration with fellow work colleagues from other departments to overcome any obstacles that arise.

When in doubt, you will not be ashamed to seek clarification from your fellow work colleagues and your Line Manager. You will also assist other members of the team with their queries and buddy and coach new starters to ensure you empower your work colleagues.  You will be responsible to work in partnership with Production to flag any issues up with procedural breaches for GMP, food quality, Food safety and H&S. You will not be afraid of challenging people, reeducating people and ensuring any continual breach of site protocol and procedures are flagged up to the HR Department.

You will also liaise with the Labour Provider, planning the labour and ensuring recommendations are made for the transfer of people from temporary to permanent happens promptly.

You will be responsible for ensuring equipment and site facilities are kept in a clean and good state of repair, sufficient for the needs of our customers, employees and agency workers. You will be able to use a computer for the inputting of data, be computer literate and have a good level of English speaking and written skills. You will respond to customer complaints, queries and ensure the relevant systems are logged and kept safe and secure.

Your role will involve interpreting customer specifications and ensuring planning is aware of what can and cannot be harvested in time for orders. You will effectively manage your workload and promote throughout the workforce excellent working practices and motivate your fellow work colleagues to maximise performance. You will seek to develop more efficient ways of working by use of continuous improvement and lean techniques.

This individual will be working hard to ensure the systems, policies and procedures we have in place are adhered to and coach all staff to get the best results from them.   You will also ensure you empower the next generation of people for the business.  You will be hands on, driven and do what is required within the realms of the law to get the product out of the door as quickly and as efficiently as possible for the needs of the business.

The Hours

5 days out of 7 including weekends.

08:00-16:00

Half hour for lunch unpaid

Two fifteen minute breaks paid.

£Dependent on experience.

Permanent / 40 hours per week.

Hours dependent on production yields and overtime will be required in peak seasons.
