We are a privately family owned, Fresh Food manufacturer & grower making an impact on the FMCG market. Our organisation is family owned, and has been since 1965. We are a fast-paced, exciting, dynamic company and due to rapid successful growth our organisation is seeking a new exciting addition to the Filling Team, based at our Howden growing and packing site in the heart of East Yorkshire.
The Harvesting Team
Our small & friendly newly formed Harvesting Team are looking for full time, Harvesting Picking Team Leaders for our expanding and mushroom growing business based in the heart of East Yorkshire. Our Harvesting Team are essential for the business. They are a hardworking, friendly team with the motivation, tenacity and drive to pick our products in the conditions required that are optimum for the shelf life of the product. They know how to ensure the mushroom is not bruised or damaged during the picking process and pick to the levels of performance required.
They work incredibly hard together to achieve the quantities required on a daily basis. These roles are vital for ensuring the customer received their products on time as fresh as possible. The team ensure the job is done and ensure any issues are resolved quickly together, working with other departments to drive performance. The team are supportive and most importantly, have a passion for the business we operate. They strive for the best food quality and safety standards throughout the harvesting process and are always on the look-out for improving processes within their areas. In this role, you will be trained to work in our unique technologically driven growing house picking mushrooms from a bed. Our pick rates are based on TEAM performance as we believe this is the best way to achieve what your financial ambitions TOGETHER. Our unique technology enables this to happen. You will train, assess and manage the performance of the Team you operate within.
You will either have experience of traditional picking processes. You will be working 6 hours for picking, with 15-minute break after 1.5 hours (paid), half hour unpaid break after a further 1.5 hours picking, and then another 15-minute paid break after a further 1.5 hours picking. You will be on site for 7 hours, paid for 6 hours (2x 15-minute breaks paid).
You will be paid a performance related bonus, based on your average TEAM hourly pick rate at the end of 6 hours, dependent on the product we are asking you to pick on the day. More details will be confirmed at the time of interview, but you will be able to earn up to £10 per hour, potentially more if you pick higher quantities.
You will manage the training and development of the Filling Operatives and ensure the Labour Provider is provided with feedback on agency workers. You will report into the Production Manager and report on any issues you have with deliveries to the Planning & Stock Manager. You will be responsible for the sterile steaming of the houses and monitoring temperatures within the growing houses during the growing period.
You will also be responsible for ensuring you adhere to site safety rules, technical rules and site segregation rules. Your role will also involve reporting issues to your Team Leader. You will be responsible for ensuring the performance of your team is at the optimum efficiency without compromising on Food safety, Health and safety and quality of product picked.
You will operate safely and securely in the picking areas of the business, with a keen eye for detail, flagging up breaches, issues to the relevant person, working in collaboration with fellow work colleagues from other departments to overcome any obstacles that arise.
When in doubt, you will not be afraid to seek clarification from your fellow work colleagues and your Line Manager. You will also assist other teams and their work colleagues with their queries and buddy and coach new starters to ensure you empower your work colleagues. You will not be afraid of challenging people, reeducating people and ensuring any continual breach of site protocol and procedures are flagged up to your Line Manager.
You will be responsible for ensuring equipment and site facilities are kept in a clean and good state of repair, sufficient for the needs of our customers, employees and agency workers. You will have a good level of English speaking and written skills.

5 days out of 7 – including Saturdays and Sunday.
Two shift systems will eventually be in operation but initially you will be require dot be flexible.
08:00 – 15:00 / 15:00 – 22:00
Half hour for lunch unpaid
Two fifteen minute breaks paid.
Pay & Benefits
£10.00 per hour + TEAM Competency Bonus.
32.5 hours per week.
Hours dependent on production yields and overtime will be required in peak seasons.
