Quality + Laboratory Manager
One of the UK's most iconic drinks companies is looking for a Quality & Laboratory Manager to join their team in Hertfordshire. With a long history of innovation, our client is responsible for a vast array of the countries best known soft drinks. This role is a management position with a team of 10 direct reports, so strong management experience as well as a background in Quality/laboratory within beverages are essential.
The role of Quality and Laboratory manager will be based in a new central laboratory facility located in Hertfordshire. The candidate will be responsible for the management of the day to day analytical work carried out in the laboratory to support the business units, contract fillers and raw materials/ingredients suppliers.
Whilst the role will be based at the group head office, in this role, some travelling nationally and internationally will be expected to support the business and business units and achieve corporate targets.
The role will report to the Group Quality manager and will function as the line manager for the Microbiology and analytical chemistry team.
The candidate will also be responsible for liaison between the company and local authorities in the event of customer or consumer complaints and to build relationships to support the successful conclusion of these issues.
To protect and enhance Corporate Brand integrity through the implementation and maintenance of the business processes relating to Food Safety, Quality and fitness for purpose of all finished products.
To support corporate business objectives of supply continuity, customer service and cost optimisation.
Ensure that contract fillers and franchise operations deliver on their obligations to provide samples of relevant production and that these fully meet company specifications.
Support the supplier assurance team with the analysis of raw materials and ingredients provide specifications where appropriate.
Provide support for the approval of contract fillers and franchises through auditing and expertise for new product launches.
Manage the operation of the Group laboratory to provide timely support in the areas of Microbiology and Soft drink chemistry to all business units.
Support and in some cases lead the internal technical audit process and management of third party audit bodies. Carry out audits on both potential and existing contract packers.
Responsibility for continued laboratory accreditation to appropriate and recognised bodies (UKAS, ISO).
Develop and implement suitable quality improvement strategies and techniques(RCA, SPC, FEMA etc.).
Influence and support the supplier approval and re approval process for primary materials and ingredients.
3-5 years experience in food industry manufacturing environment (Quality or Supply Chain management).
People Leadership and influencing experience.
Detailed knowledge of soft drinks manufacturing processes, food hygiene, food safety and GMP.
Working knowledge and understanding of International Management systems (HACCP. ISO 9001,22000, BRC and AIB).
Detailed understanding of laboratory UKAS requirements and standards.
Computer skills, good communications and presentation skills.
In depth knowledge of quality improvement and problem-solving tools.
