Monday to Friday 08:30 to 17:00

You will play a lead role in the senior team highlighting opportunities and risks to influence business performance as well as give the business competitive advantage through securing better quality or better priced materials and services.

Key Accountabilities (list not exhaustive):

  • Focus the senior team on the key areas of purchasing opportunity and risk
  • Secure competitive advantage through sourcing better quality or better priced materials
  • Ensure purchasing play a lead role cross-functionally on the areas of significant overhead spend
  • Ensure teams are focused on efficient, accurate business processes
  • Work closely with NPD on sourcing quality and best prices
  • Develop close working relationships with Planning at all levels to ensure there is a strong, formal link on all purchasing issues
  • Work closely with Finance to ensure we use and report on the latest accurate, correctly priced material volumes and values
  • Lead the implementation of better, efficient purchasing systems
  • Continually develop personal and team knowledge on the key major areas of expenditure
  • Read, research and subscribe to trade journals and encourage the team to talk with suppliers
  • Develop detailed knowledge of key areas of financial spend (Beef, Pork, Chicken, Fats, Flour, Film, Cardboard)
  • Work closely and, where appropriate, in conjunction with other Samworth Group companies.  Play a lead role within the Group Purchasing Team.

Key Skills Required:

  • A proven track record of procurement and management experience (essential)
  • CIPS qualified (desirable)
  • Ability to understand and influence key financial purchasing issues and senior team members
  • Ability to explain, present and influence in a clear, concise, compelling and consistent manner
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and delegate to achieve deadlines
  • Ability to make difficult decisions
  • Knowledge of the key market commodities, the processes and the major suppliers
  • Proven track record of leading teams
  • Excellent, clear and concise communication skills
  • Enthusiasm and a positive ‘can do’ attitude that influences positively
