The Company

This division of the company operates as a supplier of fresh, frozen, ambient and non-food products supplied to customers in a wide range of sectors within the foodservice and catering industry; including local authorities, NHS trusts, defence contractors, hotel and restaurant chains as well as many independent operators in the hospitality industry. 

The Role

Hours: Monday to Friday 09:00 - 17:00 role but will need to be flexible in order to react to site emergencies.

Supporting the delivery of a multi-temperature and multi-drop delivery service to a customer base which spans London and the South East, the Transport Manager appointed will be responsible for the smooth operation of all Transport activities, including routing and efficient planning, management of transport support staff, driver management and a hands-on approach to continually improve delivery processes.

You will manage a team of around 80 staff, (66 drivers, 2 x Supervisors, 2 x Senior Drivers, 1 x Planner and 2 x De-Briefers ). You will manage staff training and development, be involved in change management activities, and aim to improve existing operational processes to benefit the company and enhance the customer experience.

Using all available resources, the Transport Manager will work closely with Department Managers and Senior Managers to ensure Logistical challenges are overcome and agreed customer service level`s met. The jobholder will ensure all KPI`s are met, collate transport documentation, manage the departmental labour budget, and report performance to senior management. 

With an absolute focus on customer service, the Transport Manager will ensure deliveries reach the customer as expected, replacement vehicles are despatched during breakdowns, cover for drivers is met during sickness or absence and company records are updated ready for a VOSA or BRC inspection. 

The Person

You will understand the challenging of managing within a temperature controlled Food Storage/Distribution environment, with a good understanding of ambient, chilled, frozen and short shelf life products. The Transport Manager will have exceptionally high standards and expect the same from both their drivers and office based team. Applicants must be CPC qualified and have a strong background of operating and running efficient transport departments within a similar Food/FMCG business.

Package: Salary £40,000 to £45,000 pa + Benefits + Bonus Potential + 25 Days Holiday + Statutory Holidays, Discount Scheme and Generous Company Pension Scheme.

This role is commutable from-: Essex, Chelmsford, Brentwood, Stevenage, Hatfield, Royston, Harlow, Barnet, Ilford and Braintree.
