£300-£350 per day plus expenses (6 month contract with possible extension)

A chilled foods manufacturer is seeking an Interim Laboratory Manager to provide a Technical and analytical support service to the site operation. The Lab Manager will be managing a team and will be expected to work without direct supervision, you will also be monitoring compliance to standard methods, guidelines and quality. You will deliver continuous improvement or corrective action to improve standards and retailer or business objectives and ensure analytical competence throughout the operation.

 

Interim Laboratory Manager Accountabilities

 

- The Laboratory Manager must lead, motivate and appraise individuals and team to ensure consistent delivery of individual and team standards and objectives

 

- The Laboratory Manager must maintain and develop the site Quality management system in line with Dairy Crest standards

 

- All required sampling and analysis is carried out against clearance schedules, in a timely manner and at lowest cost

 

- The Laboratory Manager must manage resources to ensure efficient operation of the department

 

- The Laboratory Manager must manage site Supplier assurance activities

 

- Identify, discuss and agree, implement and evaluate training (informal and formal) for both team members and self to increase the skills base, staff flexibility and develop and motivate self and teams.

 

- The Laboratory Manager must  develop and manage the quality and food safety training activities for site

 

- Listen and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, internally (e.g. Team Briefings, Handovers) and externally (e.g. across departments and with suppliers) to ensure own activities, and those of others, are effectively aligned to minimise disruptions and meet objectives through common understanding.

 

- Understand, observe and ensure compliance with Health and Safety rules and be aware of the safety of self and others to promote a safe working environment

 

- Provide advice, problem solving and access to specialist knowledge, to both individuals and the production teams, to resolve issues speedily and effectively.

 

- Promote and encourage, through active listening, identification, ownership and resolution of problems, to continually improve team and business performance.

 

The ideal candidate will possess excellent inter personal skills, have previously worked in a food laboratory environment and possess experience as a supervisor or manager within a laboratory function.
