Raw Materials Manager
We operate manufacturing facilities in the United Kingdom and the United States and employ nearly 7,000 people. We have 16 convenience foods facilities in the UK and 6 in the US providing a wide range of chilled, frozen and ambient foods to major retail and food service customers in the UK, the US and Ireland.
This role will be based at the Evercreech site which has almost 300 employees. We are a specialist chilled food manufacturer producing high quality innovative desserts for a prestige customer. We are able to draw on over 100 years expertise of dairy management within our onsite dairy which enables the site to process product effectively for the current day market.
We are based in Somerset and commutable from surrounding the towns of Bristol, Bath, Frome and Yeovil.
To support the Desserts business in all food safety and quality aspects throughout their stores, processing, high care and collation zones.
The management and development of our important resource of quality auditors will ensure delivery of KPI data and front line audit schedules. This in turn will allow the role to rapidly respond to all downwards trends.
To bring a consistency to the Technical department functions and provide the whole business with timely, clear communications on all food safety and quality issues via a robust set of KPI metrics which are completed accurately and in a timely manner
Coach and develop all quality auditors (PDR's and review)
To manage the auditor team to complete auditor tasks and be multi skilled so holidays are not a concern on resource
To build schedules for all QA routine tasks and assure compliance.
Determine the correct technical KPI's for business and internal department
Design systems for easy collection of data and sharing of results
Initiate actions to correct non conformances or downward trends on KPI's
Help maintain desserts policies & procedures (input on content and training)
Aid formulation of budgets and control spends for area of responsibility
Deputise for Technical Manager
Support Technical Department with internal audits of the Site QMS
Help represent external auditor and customer visits to site and off site
Health and Safety risk assessment awareness for auditors and environment they are working in (factory, test kitchen and laboratory)
One of a team on out of hours cover rota (currently 1 week in 6)
To rapidly respond to customer needs with all matters relating to food safety and quality
Attendance at the 0800hrs "zone" meetings
Control of compliance for all routine Technical tasks
Preparation of customer KPI reports
Customer complaint investigations
Through robust systems maintain a library of all technical records which are complete and easily auditable
Investigations into product and environmental hygiene out of spec results
Maintain technical testing schedules as dictated by the QMS e.g environmental swabbing (including listeria), calibration, end of life tasting, micro sampling
Update of site allergen matrices
Skills & Experience
* Team management experience, preferable over a 24 / 7 cover period
* Minimum 2 years experience in a high care environment
* Food related education
* Retailer exposure (M&S preferable)
* Demonstrable skills in compliance to Code of Practise and BRC standards
