Multi Skilled Maintenance Engineer - To 34K (2 days / 2 nights / 4off)

An exciting opportunity has arisen to become a Maintenance Technician within this established food manufacturing company. Your role will be to repair equipment breakdowns as quickly and effectively as possible to limit their effects on the site production targets. Be proactive in the continuous improvement and planned maintenance programmes for all site equipment and processes.


Identify and rectify as efficiently as possible any faults on the production process in line with current Health and Safety legislation. To notify their Area Manager / Eng Supervisor of the anticipated "downtimes", complete report sheets and record all breakdown details (on task sheets), including time to rectify fault.

Carry out planned routine maintenance tasks within all areas of the site and rectify any issues found, if time permits. Report any outstanding issues to Eng Leader and departmental Engineer for an assessment of consequences and completion plan.

To be proactive in the equipment / process continuous improvement programme and be aware of equipment performance trends such as efficiency, quality and waste.
Carry out routine equipment installations as required and be involved in or familiar with any project plans for the installation of new equipment.

Responsible for the quality of information recorded in the shift log and communicated to opposite number at shift change. This ensures that unfinished tasks can be safely completed and the previous shift issues understood.

Any changes made to PLC programmes will be backed up and any other changes made to equipment installations or settings must be updated in the required files or manuals.

Liaise with the stores using all available information to determine availability of required spare, if the outcome is a non-stock item then the existing ordering procedure should be followed. Out of normal hours the existing stores procedure should be used and if a part requires ordering it must be reported to the Eng Leader who will determine the urgency and consequence. All items for refurbishment or that have been repaired must be correctly labelled and placed on the allotted shelf.

Contacting of external suppliers / technical support may be required out of normal hours to liaise on problems.

As part of the team-working environment assist in educating operators in the mechanical operation of their equipment ensuring that Health and Safety legislation is complied with. This will allow them to assist with basic maintenance practices and ensure the correct set up procedures are followed for their equipment.

Ensure that Company Health and Safety Standards are complied with and safe working practices are always adopted.

A technician role is Multi-skilled, mechanical & electrical. The multi-skilled technician would be expected to have a good mix of skills.
Experience and documented competence in mechanical and electrical engineering, normally as part of a time served apprenticeship.
Proven engineering experience in a FMCG environment
Knowledge of PLC fault finding Allen Bradley / Siemens
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Good knowledge of the food industry and processing equipment
Innovation and excellent problem solving abilities
Flexible and self motivated.
