Our client serves British growers by being a progressive facilitator of near-market horticultural research and development.
The SUCCESSFUL candidate will be responsible for:
• Identifying priority areas for research, development and technology transfer projects and undertake updates of the sector R&D strategies.
• Providing technical and administrative support and strategic guidance for the designated sector panel(s)
• Ensuring smooth running of the projects by liaison with the research leaders, careful checking of the annual reports, and arranging project or topic review meetings
• Evaluating the effectiveness of the research in completed projects and provide advice on subsequent actions
• Developing and manage specific cross sector research activities including provision of associated in-house information resources for the HDC Technical Team
• Establish and maintain contact with growers
• As part of the technical team, contribute to ongoing operations and strategic developments
• Maintaining and updating your scientific and technical knowledge and understanding by monitoring scientific journals and attending occasional scientific meetings to supplement information gained from project review meetings
The IDEAL person will possess:
• A BSc and preferably a higher degree in horticulture, plant science or a closely related agricultural subject with associated project management skills
• Knowledge of, or experience in the horticultural industry
• Personal attributes including: excellent verbal and written communication skills, tact, diplomacy, sense of humour, ability to work to deadlines, under pressure and both independently and as part of a team
• Familiarity with commonly used computer software packages, e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Access databases and PowerPoint
• Full driving licence
