The purpose of this job is to assist the Quality Assurance Manager (QAM) in achieving the company’s QA objectives. This will mean contributing to and being fully familiar with the Company’s QA policies and procedures, maintaining QA records, carrying out internal audits and issuing reports. The job also carries the responsibility for carrying out Quality Control (QC) measures from time to time, as required. The holder of the post will be expected to maintain a working knowledge of the requirements of ISO9001 (2000) and to work with the QAM to ensure that the Company is compliant with these requirements. The job holder will be capable of working on his/her own initiative and have good communication and organisational skills, as well as the requisite scientific knowledge, skills and experience.

Technical Requirements (Skills and Experience);
Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent, at grade 2.2 or better.
2-3 years of experience in a microbiological sciences laboratory.
Experienced in routine microbiological analysis of food (including sampling techniques of different food products), mainly for pathogens as Salmonella, Listeria, E.coli O157, Campylobacter, Staph. aureus, etc. is preferred.
Familiarity with identification procedures, staining/microscope, biochemical/serological tests.
Familiar with food standards in microbiology as BSI, ISO, etc., and GLP in the lab.
Experience in use of phages, enumeration, propagation, etc.
Experience of maintenance of microbiological strain collections (Bacteria, Yeast and Moulds).

Other requirements;
Ability to work with Microsoft office (Word, Excel, basics of Access, etc.).
Reasonable flexibility to vary working hours as experimental design may demand.
Initially no requirement to work outside the laboratory but the job may offer opportunities in the future to work from time to time at customer sites (e.g. supporting Beta trials).
