OUR CLIENT is a manufacturer of chilled soups, supplying the multiple retailers. They have recently been acquired by a major UK food manufacturing group, with a multi-million pound annual turnover and are restructuring the business.
Job Purpose:
To structure, organise and facilitate product and process development, maintaining close liaison with the customer. Reporting to the Technical Manager with Direct Reports from the Senior Technologist.
Principle Accountabilities and Activities:
•To develop and maintain a close working relationship with customer, including customer management whilst on site for NPD.
•To ensure new product development programmes run to agreed timescales and generate appropriate costing information. Critical path management for product approval, artwork, technical verification (nutritional/micro) and verification of key brand values.
•To monitor and control departmental expenditure within budget.
•To manage the Process Development team to ensure the most effective use of time and resources. Ensuring regular reviews with team, including performance reviews, one to ones and updating and maintaining a training matrix.
•To design and implement robust processes to meet Convenience Foods and customer requirements.
•To ensure that a culture of continuous improvement is maintained through the Development Meeting and factory daily review structure.
•To provide the relevant input into the technical specifications for machine performance, if required, to ensure the required standards are met.
•To provide direction and support to the team, managing and facilitating their performance and development and ensuring an appropriate skill level.
•To actively promote a Safety culture and ensure all Health and Safety requirements are met.
•To develop and maintain effective working relationships with Operations, Engineering and Commercial.
•To carry out ad hoc projects as business needs change. E.g. Process Improvement, value initiative, customer driven projects, involvement with site action teams and packaging performance.
•To ensure department has robust operating procedures that are regularly reviewed.
•To ensure that the customers systems for specification management are maintained.
•Responsibility for artwork generation and sign off.
